I’ve unleashed my inner farmer in suburbia, and you can, too.
Counting My Chickens is for people who care about food and where it comes from. Whether you live in an apartment with a sunny windowsill just big enough for pot of edible greens or a house with plenty of room for a garden, I will show you how to get back to the garden. I’ll give you the information and inspiration you need to achieve a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle by growing your own food and raising pet chickens for eggs. I’ll share some of my favorite recipes using garden produce and fresh eggs. And I’ll do my best to make it all a lot of fun.
Thanks for stopping by, and make sure to check out the girls on the chicken cam.

Deborah Neyens is a wannabe farmer, recovering attorney, and freelance writer who lives in a suburban subdivision outside of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When she’s not at the computer working on another blog post, she can be found tending to her organic vegetable garden and five backyard hens, developing new recipes in her kitchen, or paddling down the Iowa River on her kayak. Her motto is that food should be sustainably grown, lovingly prepared and joyfully eaten.
